How To Decorate Your Barn for the Holidays - Image

To get a glimpse at a staple of American culture, take a trip down any road in December to look at Christmas decorations. Rows and rows of houses lined are with colorful lights, nativity scenes, snowmen, wreaths, and more. It’s truly a sight to behold, and much of what makes holiday time in our country very special.

At MilMar Post Buildings, we are especially proud of the pole barns we’ve put up across the Midwest. We combine Amish craftsmanship with professional design — all for a competitive price — to construct you a beautiful, affordable post-frame structure.

One of the perks of putting up barns is bearing witness to unique and creative decorations barn owners come up with each holiday season.

Here are a few ideas to make your pole barn shine:

Christmas Lights — Utilize the available space on your exterior by hanging strands of Christmas lights. A Large house is comparable to a barn, so to calculate how much lights you need, channel your inner Clark Griswold and overestimate. Get in the spirit and hang as many as you want!

The two most common types of lights are incandescent and LED bulbs. Realize the cost of each type of bulb before you buy. Although incandescent lights might be brighter, the smart buy is with LED. LED lights are a bit more to purchase, but back-end savings are noticeable on your power bill. Incandescent bulbs actually use roughly 10 times more power than LED bulbs, which will cost you. Plus, LED bulbs don’t generate as much heat, making them significantly less likely to catch fire.

You can also string lights on your fence and over your farm equipment. Tractors, plows — anything you keep outside is fair game.

Luminaria — Save up bags throughout the year to create an excellent outline your path or driveway leading up to your barn. Simply fill luminaria, or paper lanterns, with sand and light a candle inside. The display will light the way!

Nativity Scene — If you own farm animals, you might have some of the ingredients for a perfect nativity scene. Open up your barn doors, lay down some hay, and recreate the timeless religious scene from the bible. Buying every plastic nativity piece and plugging them into a wall socket doesn’t compare to the real thing, so use your imagination and collaborate with your neighbors to complete the project with authenticity.
